Continental 300 oil leaks
David Lamphere
#33410 Valerie, I have an O-300 in my '58 C172. I'll bet your oilleakage is coming from the pushrod tubes where they fit the cylinder head. Theyare "bead" swaged into grooves in the the head and over time loosen up. I knowmine is sure leaking from there. Aircraft Tool Supply sells a tool to re-swagethose if you or your A+P that does the engine work doesn't haveone. I just got one and made a deal with the FBO - hehelps me get this done, I give him the tool. If I ever get my Tailwind flying (has an O-320)I'll be selling the Cessna andI won't be needing it. If your Continental is leaking there, this is afairly easy fix - you don't have to remove the cylinders - just therockercovers and rocker shafts. Yeah, I know it's $100 but the alternative (replacingthe tubes with better sealing ones) is 15 times more expensive. One other leakspottocheck aretherocker cover gaskets. The hi-tempsilicone gaskets work a lot better than the old stock ones. Right now I'm wrestling with a static system leakon my TW to be fixedbefore getting the FAA a/w inspection! Some bozo (me)forgot to put in those little inserts in theplastic tube ends beforeassembling - and as a result had leaks. (wouldn't hold a vacuum) Might have topull off the wing to fix this - argh! One thing after another keeps popping up preventing me from flying! Dave L. toggle quoted messageShow quoted text

#33411 we went through leaking pitot and made a neat little access panel in the bottom of the wing. it is held in place with a tab and one screw. the edges are covered with white electrical tape which becomes invisible on the white wing. thanks for the tool tip. toggle quoted messageShow quoted text From: David & Elaine Lamphere Valerie, I have an O-300 in my '58 C172.
