The Therapeutic Power of Hands-On ActivitiesIn our fast-paced digital world, it's easy to overlook the simple, tactile pleasures of hands-on activities. Yet, the act of using our hands – be it through baking a loaf of bread or tending to a garden – is deeply intertwined with the effort-reward cycle that drives human satisfaction and wellbeing. The Effort-Reward CycleThe effort-reward cycle is a fundamental psychological concept where the effort invested in an activity is reciprocated with a sense of achievement and reward. When we engage in manual tasks, our hands become the primary tools through which we interact with the material world. This interaction is not just physical; it's a multisensory experience that involves touch, movement, and sometimes even smell and taste.Baking: A Blend of Science and ArtBaking is a perfect example of this cycle. It requires precision and patience, from measuring ingredients to kneading dough. The process itself is meditative, allowing us to focus on the task at hand and momentarily push aside the day's worries. And the reward? The aroma of freshly baked bread, the warmth of the oven, and the satisfaction of sharing your creation with others.Gardening: Cultivating More Than Just PlantsSimilarly, gardening is an act of nurturing and growth. It's a commitment that demands regular attention and care. But the rewards are manifold – the joy of seeing a seed sprout, the tranquility of being in nature, and the pride in a harvest well-earned. Gardening connects us to the cycle of life and reminds us of our role in the larger ecosystem.Wellbeing Through CreationThese activities are more than just hobbies; they are vital for our mental and emotional health. They provide a counterbalance to screen time, offer a sense of control in a chaotic world, and improve our mood through the release of endorphins. Moreover, they can foster community and connection, as the fruits of our labor are often shared. So, next time you're feeling overwhelmed, consider turning off your devices and getting your hands dirty. Whether you're an amateur baker or a green-thumbed gardener, the simple act of using your hands can be a profound source of joy and fulfillment.https://lnkd.in/gVx-_cWY

It doesn’t even have to go well, either! It could be a bomb project, but just the act of trying something new, working with my hands, and having to think through a problem criti instagram.com

Another reason why learning emotional self-regulation is important- the hippocampus is linked to learning and memory. Singing is an excellent way of reducing stress because it stimulates the vagus nerve (CNX) that travels through the throat and vocal folds https://lnkd.in/ge4NZ_qe

Prospective reports of chronic life stress predict decreased grey matter volume in the hippocampus sciencedirect.com

Reflecting on the pursuit of perfection, I've come to see its deep roots in my upbringing and in the lives of the prodigious talents I teach. This relentless drive, often mirrored in the competitive spirit of their parents, has led me to ponder on perfectionism as a form of intergenerational trauma. It's fascinating how this quest for flawlessness ties into our very voice, the medium of our self-expression.In the practice of Jin Shin Jyutsu, the kidney meridian—which influences our throat—can carry the weight of this perfectionism, manifesting as tension when we speak or sing. By holding our index finger for 20 minutes, we consciously engage with these patterns, seeking to understand and release them. This concept resonates with me profoundly, as it aligns with my experiences both personally and professionally. If you're intrigued by the intersection of voice, energy meridians, and the patterns we inherit, I invite you to explore this further through a thought-provoking piece I found. It's a reflection that might just strike a chord with you too. #Perfectionism #IntergenerationalTrauma #VoiceTraining #JinShinJyutsu #SelfReflectionhttps://lnkd.in/d854uGnr

Answering Your Calling: The Legacy We Leave BehindIn a world bustling with activity and brimming with people, it's easy to feel like just another face in the crowd. But each of us carries a spark, a unique blend of talents and passions that can light up the world in a way no one else can.I recently came across this 👇powerful message that resonated deeply with me: "Live so that when you die, everyone knows there's something missing in the world." It's a profound reminder that our time here isn't just about the milestones we reach or the accolades we collect. It's about the imprint we leave on the hearts and minds of those we touch.Answering your calling isn't about grand gestures or monumental achievements. It's about embracing who you are, diving into what you love, and sharing that love with the world. It's about creating, serving, and giving in a way that only you can.So, ask yourself, what is the legacy you wish to create? How will you answer your calling? Share your thoughts, and let's inspire each other to make our mark – to ensure that when our time comes, the world will feel the space where our light once shone.#AnsweringYourCalling #Legacy #MakeYourMarkhttps://lnkd.in/dkcmsuKN
